The Walking Dead: What you can expect from season 6

By Lucky
WARNING: POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD!!

This past Sunday, we were treated with the premiere of the sixth season of AMC’s The Walking Dead. Picking up right where Season 5 left off, Morgan finally arrived in Alexandria just in time to see Rick deliver swift justice. The episode also explored some of Alexandria’s history and how it was able to remain free of walker attacks for so long. But now that we’ve been shown the history, what can we expect to see happen in the future?

After the season premiere, people took to social media to announce their deduction of Maggie’s pregnancy, in which case those who have read the comics know that this is most likely the case. Although the show’s storyline differs from the comics in many ways (i.e. Andrea’s death), the show has been moving in the same relative direction as the comics. This means that the rumors that Maggie is pregnant could prove to be true. If this is the case, a big portion of this season could be geared toward more development of Maggie and Glen’s relationship as they struggle with the fact that they’re no longer just surviving for themselves.

The next aspect of what we’ll be seeing this season is the casting of actor Tom Payne in the role of Paul “Jesus” Monroe, the main recruiter for the neighboring community known as the Hilltop. The introduction of the Hilltop will expand the world Rick and the group we currently know about and open up relationships with a different town. This means trading and negotiating with new people and even setting up new forms of governments. Partnerships and trading deals would completely alter the way the apocalypse has been painted so far by the show as we see civilization start to form again. It would be too bad if there was a megalomaniac around to ruin it all.

This begs the question that has been circulating the internet for quite some time: what about Negan? Fans of the comics have been waiting to see the deranged, foul-mouthed Negan ever since the possibility of going to Washington DC was brought up by Abraham. Those who read the comics knew then that Alexandria was coming and that – if the show continues to follow the comics – Negan won’t be far behind. However it seems like it could be a while before he is introduced at all since the show is focusing on the new group calling themselves the Wolves. The season could start by dealing with the Wolves during the first half followed by the introduction of Jesus and the Hilltop Community and establishing relations during the second half.

Regardless of the possibilities, Season 6 is shaping up to be one of the best seasons the show has produced.  What will happen to Rick and the Gang from here on out?  Guess we are all going to have to tune in and find out.
