King B Kool Quick Review: Wind Waker HD

When this game came out for the Gamecube I never really gave it a chance. I enjoyed what I did play - windfall island was fun and seemed like a good substitute for Hyrule town, but the control scheme kept me from investing the time I should have. There was something about navigating the ocean with a sail and a baton on a talking boat that just didn't captivate me the same way running across Hyrule did.

It's a shame I didn't delve a little deeper - I was almost at what is now one of my favorite Zelda scenes ever, under the waves. The remake has grabbed my attention and the new draw distances and shading are gorgeous. The sun and lighting are fantastic and the detail in the remade world has to be seen, especially if you had seen or played the original. A close friend of mine remarked that he didn't see much change in side by side footage on YouTube. And he was right - I myself didn't see the visuals as all that different... But having the game in front of you and not on some compressed Internet video immediately takes out all those fears- it looks stunning. If you loved the original, I'm sure you'll love this remake. If you didn't love the original version like me, you'll find much more to love this time around. I know I did.
